Artist’s Statement

"From the 94 feet of hardwood in the gymnasiums of Maryland and the unforgiving black tops of DC emerges a man with a voice." I always wanted to begin my autobiography that way. The very instant the Spalding basketball stopped bouncing and the microphone found its way into my hand, Rewind was born. In retrospect I suppose Rewind was conceived much earlier. “I’m not internationally known, but I’m known to rock the microphone” I told my preschool teacher. I was two years old. There weren’t too many kids that could sing their ABCs let alone quote Rob Bass. However my talent lay dormant for thirteen years suppressed by hoop dreams and law school aspirations. Little did I know that I would soon defy the “laws”…….of rap. But first, I would have to eradicate the memories of an absent father and mature as a father figure for the sake of my younger brother. But how hard would that be when your mother’s middle name is superwoman. Indeed my hero, my mom is the co author of my life’s novel. So when people judge it by the cover I’m frustrated to say the least. So I turned to music for its unique ability to filter my rage, and express what I was unable to. If my life isn’t the classic story of “rags to riches” or “from nothing to something” I question the very definition of classic. Tell the critics they’re not smart enough to criticize me; tell the hip hop junkie I’m not a hip hop artist… just tell them I’m something else; tell them I am Rewind.
